The GC Awards for Innovation 2007 -

John Radcliffe Hospital has taken the top prize at the GC Awards for Innovation 2007
Its Wireless Enabled Blood Tracking project was announced the overall winner, adding to its award in the Best project – Government to Citizen category.
It came out at the top of a process that was as competitive as ever, with over 130 projects from 100 organisations entering the competition. The judges were impressed by how it dealt with a complex process in the challenging environment of a modern hospital, staying focused on the prime objective of helping to save lives and promising long term benefits for healthcare in the UK.
The awards were presented by government chief information officer John Suffolk at a gala dinner at Madame Tussaud's, London on 26 April 2007.
He commented: "Innovation is a key part of Transformational Government, and I am delighted that the quality and range of entries this year demonstrate how we are using technology to bring about real changes in our public services that are benefiting both citizens and those involved in their delivery."
Steven Voss, chair of the judging panel, said: "We're delighted to be able to recognize the hard work and application that public bodies are bringing to public sector ICT projects. The entries this year mark a real change, with projects really delivering not only on innovation but real efficiency savings through some highly effective projects. They demonstrate the power of technology to help improve public services"

Wireless Enabled Blood Tracking – John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford - This has provided end to end electronic control of blood administration, ensuring safer transfusions, eliminating errors, cutting costs and freeing up staff time.
Best project - Government to government, sponsored by Steria
Winner: Lantern – National Policing Improvement Agency - The development of a handheld device for capturing fingerprints and searching the IDENT 1 database.
Runner-up: Interim Police Local Cross-Referencing Database (I-PLX) – Criminal Records Bureau

Best project within an organisation
Winner: Digital Election – Clackmannanshire Council - An initiative to use digital pen and paper to deliver an election result. It is claimed to be a world first that has won a high level of voter confidence, and provided a scalable solution for future elections.
