Myers to advise Home Office
8 February 2007
The director of shared services has left the Cabinet Office to run his own consultancy
David Myers, following approval from the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, is to take on a contract to advise the Home Office on how to implement their shared service functions, GC News has learned. It is unclear how long the contract will run for.
The government's chief information officer, John Suffolk, in a letter to his staff on 8 February 2007, said: "Jo Clift has kindly agreed to act as head of shared services, leading the shared services team and Peter Court will head up the ITTB team (responsible for the Cabinet Office's IT and communication systems), including taking forward work on Project ISSAC and GSI."
Clift will still retain her title of deputy director. She has been working on the shared service programme began in 2004-05.
Court, who is director of technical infrastructure, used to work for the Office of Government Commerce but has been with the Cabinet Office (CO) for two years. Both will now report directly to Suffolk.
It is unlikely the CO will fill the role permanently in the next six months because of the implications of the Varney Review; the Comprehensive Spending Review due out in July and the resignation of the prime minister in six months time, say government sources.
GC News reported on 3 January 2007 that Myers was to take on a non civil service role in the Home Office after just one year as director of shared services in the Cabinet Office. Prior to the director of shared services role, he spent two years as chief information officer (CIO) of the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra).
He is also a qualified accountant with over 12 years experience as both IT director and CIO in numerous large blue chip companies, including ICI, KPMG and BAE Systems.
